Fraser Care and Safety
Care and Safety: Selection of the "perfect" Christmas tree can be an enjoyable and memorable experience for the whole family. By following a few simple procedures, buyers can select trees which will meet their needs throughout the holiday season. Make a fresh cut straight across the base of the tree -- cut off approximately one-half inch before placing the tree in a stand. Use a stand that will hold a gallon of water or more. Check water often and keep the stand is full. A tree may take up a gallon of water in the first 24 hours and a quart a day after that. Preservatives are not needed, just plenty of fresh water. Place tree away from heat sources, heating vents, fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, and sunny windows. Do not overload electric circuits. Turn off lights before leaving home or going to bed. Remember, a fresh cut, plenty of water, and a bit of common sense makes for a safe and happy tree.
Size and Grade
The size and grade of North Carolina grown Fraser Fir comply with US Dept. of Agriculture Standards. The Club will offer only premium and #1 Grade trees. These trees will be a healthy silverish green color, medium to heavy density, normal taper, clean and fresh cut within a week of delivery. The size will be determined by the height, which is measured from the bottom of the trunk to the top whorl or the bottom of the top terminal stem. Some appreciate the medium density of the #1 grade tree, which better allows many ornaments and lights to be placed inside the canopy of the tree. Others appreciate the heavy density and natural look of a premium tree with little ornamentation. The normal taper provides the bottom diameter of the tree will be 40-60% of the height. The butt of your tree will be trimmed to allow for a 6-inch handle to make it stand ready. Just place in your stand, add water and enjoy months of sweet fragrance and beauty.for More Information go to: Agricultural Extension Service
